Bumgarner 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon

Vineyard:
The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon is made from two high elevation vineyards within El Dorado. The Cabernet Sauvignon is from an old vine Cabernet Block in a Pleasant Valley Vineyard just under 3000 feet. The Malbec is from a Camino vineyard at 3100 feet. The alpine breezes flowing down off the Sierras cool these high elevation vineyards and allow the grapes to mature slowly while retaining their natural acidity.

Winemaking Notes:
The grapes were sorted and de-stemmed. Musts were cold soaked for 3 days then inoculated with cultured yeasts. Manual punch downs were carried out three times a day, with a total maceration time of 14 days. To showcase the elegant side of Cabernet Sauvignon aging was carried out in 100% French oak with about 30% new oak integrating the oak flavors with the fruit. The wine was aged in Barrel for 36 months before bottling without fining or filtration.

Winemaker Impressions:
This Cabernet displays strength and balance and harmoniously shows ripe fruit and subtle spices. It is full bodied, with firm tannins yet is smooth on the palate with a long finish. This wine layers in notes of black cherry, cassis, and espresso beans, with dark chocolate notes on the finish.

Wine Stats:
Blend: 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Malbec
Alcohol: 14.5%.
pH: 3.58
TA 0.66
750 mls
Production: 244 cases

Bumgarner 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon

Vineyard:
The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is made from the Duarte-Georgetown vineyard. This high elevation vineyard has many clonal selections and blenders. I elected to use three different Cabernet clones in this 100% varietal cabernet. The alpine breezes flowing down off the Sierra Nevada cool these 3000’ elevation mountain vineyards and allow the grapes to mature slowly while retaining their natural acidity.

The wine was aged in Barrel for 34 months before bottling without fining or filtration.

Winemaker Impressions:
Like a Kung Fu master this Cabernet displays strength and balance yet epitomizes grace and harmony. The intensity and depth of fruit is balanced by a silky smooth palate and long finish. This wine layers in notes of black cherry, green peppercorn, espresso bean and dark chocolate on the finish.

Bumgarner 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon

Vineyard:
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is made from the Grace Vineyard in Camino. I blended the Cabernet with some Malbec and Petite Verdot. The alpine breezes flowing down off the Sierra Nevada cool these 3000’ elevation mountain vineyards and allow the grapes to mature slowly while retaining their natural acidity.

This Cabernet layers in notes of bright cherry and red currant spiced with mountain sage, anise and black tea. It will be exciting to see this wine develop over the next decade.
